Job Summary:
Development Engineer responsible for systems software integration of NetApp NAS – NFS & SAN (FCP, iSCSI) products that integrate with VMware ESX Server releases & storage technologies
You will work as part of a team responsible for actively participating in driving product development and strategy. Essential Functions:
• Responsible for debugging and troubleshooting various components storage stack on VMware ESX Server and/or or other UNIX platforms ( HP UX , Solaris , AIX ). Focus on working with device drivers (e.g., QLogic and Emulex) and storage stacks in a VMware ESX Server environment, including integration of the storage stack with solutions such as Multi pathing (FCP & iSCSI) and NFS Datastores.
• Perform debugging , analyzing Vmkernel level, TCP-dump/ FCP-trace analysis and fixing of interoperability issues found during testing, with the ability to drive those issues to closure with test/Interop team or system vendors.
• Good understanding of Vmkernel storage stack (FCP, iSCSI & NFS) and vSCSI layer on VMware ESX Server.
• Writing Functional/Design specifications and Development test plans.
• Develop or Improve automation framework for VMware ESX Server environment for all storage protocols (FCP, iSCSI & NFS).
• Work collaboratively with other engineers, and be willing to take on any engineering tasks that contribute to the progress towards goals of the team and company (e.g., conduct design and code reviews of your work with other members of the team and cross-functionally with other groups affected by your work)

Specific Responsibilities:
A senior, mechanical product development engineer responsible for the development and design of state of the art storage packaging systems. The person should be a self-starter and be strongly goal oriented. They will be expected to drive product concepts and designs from the component level through integration using internal as well as external partner/consultant development models. Ensure the delivery of a high quality design within the projected time and cost targets. Conduct design reviews, write M.E. product specifications. Assist in development partner selection process. Drive mechanical storage shelf architecture and work closely with partners to execute NetApp's designs per schedule and quality expectations. Work with NetApp ID and thermal disciplines. As a Hardware Engineer you will work as part of a team responsible for all phases of product development including product definition and delivery. As part of the Research and Development function, the overall focus of the group is on competitive market and customer requirements, technology advances, product quality, product cost and time-to-market. Technical projects Hardware Engineers participate in include: exploration of products and/or process problems, definition and selection of new concepts and approaches, origination or modification of material, component and process specifications and requirements.
Essential Functions:
- A major part of your responsibility will be to participate in any and/or all phases
of the product development cycle from architecture through implementation,
documentation, prototyping, validation and support including:
- Evaluating materials, properties and techniques used in production of small systems
- Evaluation and executing design and development plans for products
- Architecture, documentation, prototyping, validation and support
- Complete subsystem project planning and executing
- Testing
- Writing test cases
- Working on the specification, development, validation, and support for products
