Senior HDD Qualification Engineer

Job Type: Full-Time
Location : Sunnyvale, CA


Job Summary:
As a Hardware Engineer you will work as part of a team responsible for all phases of product development including product definition and delivery. As part of the Research and Development function, the overall focus of the group is on competitive market and customer requirements, technology advances, product quality, product cost and time-to-market. Technical projects Hardware Engineers participate in include: exploration of products and/or process problems, definition and selection of new concepts and approaches, origination or modification of material, component and process specifications and requirements.

Essential Functions:
• A major part of your responsibility will be to lead all phases of the product development cycle from architecture through implementation, documentation, prototyping, validation and support including:
o Evaluating materials, properties and techniques used in production of small systems
o Evaluation and executing design and development plans for products
o Translate customer needs to technical solutions
o Architecture, documentation, prototyping, validation and support
o Complete subsystem project planning and executing
o Testing
o Writing test cases
o Working on the specification, development, validation, and support for products through the product life
• As part of a team, you will act as a technical advisor and resource to other engineers and across functions.
• This individual will be responsible for evaluating, defining and prioritizing projects.
• A willingness to work on additional tasks and responsibilities that will positively contribute toward team, department, and company goals.

Requirements:
• Strong oral and written communication skills are essential.
• Experience in leading hardware design and development.
• A strong understanding of complex concepts related to architecture, design engineering, reliability, prototyping and failure analysis.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment of engineers to meet aggressive goals and high quality standards.
• Ability to develop longer-range project plans and schedules for complex projects or new product development.

Responsibility and Interaction:
• Responsibility:
o The tasks this individual is responsible for are often unstructured, have wide implications and there are multiple outcomes.
o This individual will apply broad expertise or unique technical/industry knowledge in solving problems that are unique and extremely complex given time, budget and resource constraints.
o Demonstrate leadership and vision in determining and driving strategy decisions.

• Interaction:
o This individual must work effectively with staff to vice-president level employees within the function, across functions and with external parties.
o Limited supervision is provided, as this individual can operate, drive results, and set priorities independently.
o The ideal candidate will be a proactive contributor and subject matter expert.
o To be successful, this individual must demonstrate favorable results through leadership and influencing multiple individuals and groups.
o May provide guidance, mentor or supervise the activities more junior engineers.

Education & Experience:
• Minimum of 7 years experience is required, 8 to 10 years of experience is preferred.
• A Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science, a Master Degree, or a PhD; or equivalent experience is required.
• Demonstrated ability to have completed multiple, complex technical projects.
