Job Summary
Successful candidate will provide technical expertise and be directly involved in the development and qualification of Enterprise-Class power solutions. Experience designing and verifying Offline Bulk AC-DC and -48VDC power supplies is required. The successful team player should also be able to independently lead PSU and Power Distribution System developments and actively participate in server and storage product system designs.
Job Requirements
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Specify, design-validation, simulate and test high-efficiency:
o Offline-bulk AC-DC PSUs form 400W-2000W
o -48VDC PSUs form 400W-2000W
o VRM & VRD: for both Intel and AMD processors
o DC-DC Converters, (POL)
o Intelligent battery chargers
• Evaluate, and select; power circuit topologies, circuit components, protective
measures, and control policies to meet performance and cost objectives
• Develop and document hardware requirements and specifications, develop power
architecture, and participate in the development of hardware test and
verification/validation plans and procedures
• Collaborate with NetApp’s; engineering staff, internal cross-functional teams,
vendors and ODM partners to develop power supplies and power distribution systems
for enterprise class server and storage products.
• Participate in brainstorming sessions, invention disclosures, and proposals for
research contributing to innovation and technology development
• Define equipment for evaluation and testing, define processes and ensure adherence.
Education and Experience GENERAL SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
• Working experience in switching power supplies AC/DC, DC/DC with various topologies
(Full-Bridge, Half-Bridge, Forward, Boost, Flyback, ZVS, PFC, synchronous
rectifier, current sharing and hot swappable.)
• A theoretical understanding of power supply topologies, feedback loop types,
compensation methods and testing of frequency and time domain transfer
characteristics of switching power supplies
• Fundamentals in the design of power electronics, understanding of electric power
conversion concepts and selection of electrical equipment.
• Understanding of; cost points, technology drivers, efficiency targets, redundancy
• Experience with harmonic analysis, fault analysis, circuit protection, and system
stability.
• Experience in Analog circuit design including: Analog circuit, magnetic design, Op-
Amp, D/A, A/D, interface with micro-controller, sensing techniques and calibration)
• Experience with international standards: EMI/EMC, safety and thermal management
• Experience in electronic packaging (high density SMT, PCB layout techniques, planar
transformers, EMI, thermal)
• Proficiency with one or more engineering tools like: ICAP, Mathcad, Matlab, Pspice,
etc.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to communicate ideas with people from
diverse educational, experiential, and cultural backgrounds.
• Exceptional analytical and organizational skills, coupled with a well-focused
attention to detail; ability and commitment to produce a timely and highly accurate
work results.
• Self motivated and be capable of working both independently and in teams.
• BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 8+ years professional engineering experience including hands-on test and measurement
