Job Summary:
Development Engineer responsible for systems software integration of NetApp NAS – NFS & SAN (FCP, iSCSI) products that integrate with VMware ESX Server releases & storage technologies
You will work as part of a team responsible for actively participating in driving product development and strategy. In addition, you will participate in activities that include testing and debugging of operating systems that run NetApp storage applications. As part of the Research and Development function, the overall focus of the group is on competitive market and customer requirements, technology advances, product quality, product cost and time-to-market. Software engineers focus on enhancements to existing products as well as new product development.
Essential Functions:
• Responsible for debugging and troubleshooting various components storage stack on VMware ESX Server and/or or other UNIX platforms ( HP UX , Solaris , AIX ). Focus on working with device drivers (e.g., QLogic and Emulex) and storage stacks in a VMware ESX Server environment, including integration of the storage stack with solutions such as Multi pathing (FCP & iSCSI) and NFS Datastores.
• Perform debugging , analyzing Vmkernel level, TCP-dump/ FCP-trace analysis and fixing of interoperability issues found during testing, with the ability to drive those issues to closure with test/Interop team or system vendors.
• Good understanding of Vmkernel storage stack (FCP, iSCSI & NFS) and vSCSI layer on VMware ESX Server.
• Writing Functional/Design specifications and Development test plans.
• Develop or Improve automation framework for VMware ESX Server environment for all storage protocols (FCP, iSCSI & NFS).
• Work collaboratively with other engineers, and be willing to take on any engineering tasks that contribute to the progress towards goals of the team and company (e.g., conduct design and code reviews of your work with other members of the team and cross-functionally with other groups affected by your work)
• Participate in technical communication with customers, external development and test/Interop partners, and other parts of NetApp including marketing, customer support, and sales.
• Ability to work with remote and/or geographically distributed teams (including QA, marketing, customer support, vendors)
Requirements:
• Experience in development and debugging integration software focusing on kernel level, storage stack or network device drivers in HP Unix and Other Unix OS environments
•Thorough knowledge of various VMware ESX Server storage & network environment or Unix software environment, including LUN assignment , volume groups , multipathing , Unix file systems, crash dump analysis, development and debugging .
•Good understanding on VMware HA , DRS , Vmotion , Storage Vmotion & Vmware snapshots.
•Experience in QA testing & Automation.
•Experience in a VMware QA & Development environment.
•Experience in Configuration, Troubleshooting complex issues in VMware ESX Server environments and in one or more of Unix OS’s ( HP UX , Solaris , AIX ) knowledge is a plus.
•Experience in writing Functional/Design specifications and Development test plans.
•Should have good knowledge in VMware virtualization knowledge & Storage Domain knowledge is a plus.
•TCP-IP/FCP Protocol knowledge is a plus
•Manage multiple priorities and tasks in a dynamic work environment
•Good written and verbal communication skills

Education and Experience:
- A minimum of 8 years of experience is required. 9 to 11 years of experience is preferred.
- A Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science, a Master Degree, or a PhD; or equivalent experience is required.
- Demonstrated ability to have completed multiple, complex technical projects.
